Art, and family history.

This is an old photo of my grandfather (Jan Domela Nieuwenhuis) in the studio of artist Cesar Domela in Amsterdam, 1926.

My grandfather worked for Paramount Pictures and painted this logo that was used from 1953 into the late 60s:

He did the matte painting/art department/special effects for Her Jungle Love (1938), Spawn of the North (1938), and Cecil B. DeMille’s The Ten Commandments (1956) (three academy awards) as well as H. G. Wells’ War of the Worlds (1953).  Kinda cool!

I am a arthistorian, and publish about Cesar Domela (Nieuwenhuis). I like to have the photo of your grandfather in the atelier of Domela in Amsterdam in 1926.

    • Hello and thank you for your note! That’s fantastic that you have this photo. Is there any chance I could get a higher resolution image (jpeg?) of it so I could share it with my father (Jan Domela’s son)? Feel free to email me directly: Cheers!

      • Oh… I just realized I may have misunderstood. You would “like to have this photo” not you “have this photo”. I don’t have the original…I found it on the internet and reposted it here. If you happen to find it, let me know!
